I recently saw a video online of a group of thousands of Shaolin Kung Fu students who have trained their entire school lives for a single moment. A moment to be a part of a massive exhibition showcasing their talent, their precision, and their day in and day out efforts. In this exhibition they will be performing maneuvers and forming patterns that can be seen from thousands of feet up.
When I watched the video, my first thought was, “Man, that’s awesome!” My second thought was, “There is no way I could possibly do that!” The amount of time and practice that went into this exhibition was unreal, but they did it because they wanted to be a part of it. It was a highly anticipated event, both for the public and for the Kung Fu students.
There is something in each one of us that wants to be a part of something big. That’s why, if you’ve never followed baseball, you still cared about the Astros winning the World Series in 2017. It’s why the stories of the olympic games capture all of us. It’s why I cheered (and maybe teared up a bit) when the US Men won their first ever gold medal in CURLING. Yes you read that right, CURLING!!! It is within all of us. We want to be a participating part of something big.
When we look at our call in the Great Commission, we are called to be a part of something big. We are called to be part of a Kingdom that is not our own. Not only are we called to be a part of it, we are given jobs. We are given responsibilities. We are given the privilege of growing the Kingdom and of training those in the Kingdom.
How are you doing? Are you excited to be a part of something big? Is it evident in your life? How are you growing the Kingdom? How are you training others in the Kingdom? I believe that we should ask ourselves these questions each day. Will you join me?
